Fishing operation to retrieve bridge plug and second tool string

Client - Dong Energy / Hess ltd, Location - Syd Arne field, North Sea

Overview

An HE-3 bridge plug was run on wireline utilising a DPU running tool. This tool malfunctioned and failed to set the bridge plug correctly. A second tool string was run to retrieve the plug to surface but at SPM2#, it became lodged and fishing operations commenced. Coil tubing attempted to retrieve the plug jarring up at 90k impact forces with no success. Attempts to push the plug back down the hole were also unsuccessful. The most likely causes for the plug becoming stuck were that the element had rolled over or had been damaged exposing the wire spring reinforcement, or the slip retaining ring broke.

Outcome

The fish was successfully retrieved as per programme, ensuring all recovery options were adhered to at all times. Well brought back on line and production resumed, estimated cost saving in around 4 mm in a work over. Fish depth was 2065mtr.
