Touch of glitz and glamour at the 2009 Energy Ball
11 August 2009 – The cream of the oil and gas industry gathered in Aberdeen for an evening of glitz and glamour at the star-studded 2009 Press & Journal Energy Ball.
Around 900 oil and gas professionals from around the globe attended the black-tie event at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on August 8 where they were treated to a night of top-class entertainment from some of the UK’s leading performers.
With guests from international oil and gas companies, VIPs and dignitaries, the Ball aimed to reflect the global nature of the industry.
Sponsored by Aker Qserv, the Energy Ball is a highlight in the north-east’s corporate calendar. This year, guests were treated to breathtaking dance routines from Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag, professional dancers from Strictly Come Dancing, and performances by violinist Victoria Yellop and Jive Talkin’, the singing sensation who stormed the West End with their Bee Gees show.

The event raised thousands of pounds for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.
Garry Michie, operations director – Well Services UK of Aker Qserv, said: “The north-east has long been a focal point for international oil and gas operations. The industry has had a tough time of it in recent months but it was refreshing to see that there are still success stories out there and that confidence in the sector remains high.
“This was a fantastic event which, as an established player in the industry, we were delighted to be supporting again. It provided not only a forum for celebrating the achievements of Scotland’s energy sector but also the chance to meet and speak to the key people whose passion and determination is driving the industry forward.”
