Norwegian expansion for Aberdeen pipeline and process business

Aker Solutions' Aberdeen operation is exporting its process and pipeline business to Norway in a strategic move to bolster the company’s service and maintenance offering on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The doors have recently opened on new 10,000 sq ft premises at Forus, Stavanger, which will house both office staff and field operators. The facility will also be used as service base for process and pipeline customers in Norway.

Through establishing this facility, Aker Solutions will offer an expanded range of pipeline inspection and maintenance services in Norway, including flooding, cleaning, gauging, pigging, hydrostatic testing, dewatering and drying and barrier testing. The company will also ramp up its offering of process services including flushing and cleaning services, flange management and pipe freezing as well as shutdown, commissioning and start-up services for onshore and offshore process systems through nitrogen purging and helium leak testing.

The move comes off the back of contract wins totalling £2 million (GBP) in recent months, with an additional £3million worth of orders already in the book for the next three years. These include agreements with BP and Technip; and a project to supply hot oil flushing, chemical cleaning and testing services to Aker Solutions’ own yard in Egersund for its work on the Goliat field development project.

Graeme Wood, Aker Solutions’ operations director of process and pipeline services, says: “For quite some time our UK and Norwegian operations has jointly explored opportunities to bring our complimentary technologies into our respective home markets in order to expand our local service portfolios. The establishment of our Norwegian process and pipeline business, which has its origin from Aberdeen, is an excellent example of this strategy. I am pleased that we can now offer an expanded process and pipeline maintenance services to our Norway-based customers”.
