Aker Solutions brave dizzy heights for charity
FOUR Aker Solutions staff will take their fight to find the cure for type 1 diabetes to a higher level – by jumping 10,000ft from a plane.
The brave group are gearing themselves up to take part in a sponsored skydive this weekend (Sunday 16th October) at Errol Airfield, Perthshire to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the world's leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research.
Kevin Anderson, Simon Monaghan, David Marshall and Alistair Love will complete their adrenaline-filled adventure as part of Aker Solutions long-term support of the charity.
To date, the company has raised over £4,500 for JDRF through various fundraising events including, a silent auction, a bake sale and a golf tournament at Carnoustie. This is the latest event in a long standing partnership with the charity.
Skydiver Kevin Anderson of Aker Solutions’ UK well service business said: “It’s great to know that any amount of money we manage to raise will help JDRF fund more vital research into finding the cure for type 1 diabetes. With so many people affected by type 1 diabetes it is crucial that we continue to help support research into the condition, as this is the only way we can make progress in finding the cure which would have such a dramatic effect on people’s lives.
“We thought about different ways to raise money, but skydiving was without a doubt the most exciting if not the most daunting. However, we were prepared to put our fear of heights to the ultimate test in an effort to reach our fundraising target of £1000.”
Alastair Brookes, JDRF’s Development Manager for Scotland said: “The group’s challenge is a great example of how people can get involved with JDRF and with the condition affecting about 350,000 people in the UK, over 27,000 of them in Scotland it is crucial that we continue raising more money to help fund new research.”
