Qserv helps Masters students gain in-depth understanding of coiled tubing technology
Engineering students at Robert Gordon University’s Energy Centre will gain an understanding of coiled tubing technology when Graham Meldrum, International Well Control Forum (IWCF)/Coiled Tubing Instructor at specialist well, process and pipeline service company, Qserv, presents two guest lectures in January and February.
The lectures, to around 120 engineering students, are part of the Advanced Completion and Subsea Engineering Module of the Petroleum Production, Drilling and Well and Oil and Gas Engineering MScs, and take place on 28 January and 17 February.
The Energy Centre uses industry contributors in all its MSc courses, providing students with potential industry contacts and face-to-face interaction with experienced personnel, ensuring they gain a good understanding of the sector and helping them integrate quickly with new employers after graduation.
Mr Meldrum has worked in the oil well services industry for around 30 years and began to specialise in training in 1994, working as an instructor for an oilfield training company in Dundee, where he focused on coiled tubing, hydraulic work-over and fluid pumping operations.
He said: “These guest lectures will provide me with an excellent opportunity to meet MSc-level students and introduce Qserv and the work we do.
“Ensuring that our graduates have had as much experience as possible of the industry before they start work is absolutely invaluable, and giving companies the opportunity to provide guest lecturers is vital to ensuring that happens.”
Steve Button, Discipline Leader Petroleum Production Engineering MSc, The Energy Centre, said: “We are committed to working actively with oil and gas companies to ensure our students are as well integrated and industry-focused as they can be, before they even graduate.”
